Health Benefits of Breast-feeding

It’s common knowledge the breast milk is good for babies, but did you know it’s good for mom too? Both mothers and children benefit from breast milk. For moms, breast feeding provides long-term preventative effects, including an earlier return to pre-pregnancy weight, reduced risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer and osteoporosis. Besides providing the right nutrition for babies, breast milk contains antibodies that protect infants from bacteria and viruses. Studies have shown that breastfed children have fewer ear infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections and have diarrhea less often. Infants who are exclusively breastfed tend to need fewer health care visits, prescriptions and hospitalizations resulting in a lower total medical care cost compared to never-breastfed infants. Support for nursing moms to continue their active lifestyles while continuing to breastfeed is essential. Home and workplace support as well as comfortable and stylish nursing clothing that is fashionable and functional helps nursing moms maintain their breastfeeding while maintaining a normal life outside of the home.
